Laptop Internet Problem?

My laptop’s internet connection quality is inconsistent. I constantly have to disconnect and reconnect my LAN connection to speed things up or keep things going. Then one day I discovered that if I keep the computer plugged in, the internet works consistently and just fine, but ONLY if I do this. Is there something I can do about this?
